As one of the World’s Top 100 Courses (#79, Golf Magazine, 2007) and Canada’s #1 Public Course (SCOREgolf Magazine, 2006 & Golf Magazine 2007) for the third consecutive year, Highlands Links represents the essence and purity of golf as it was meant to be played. Here, between the majesty of the Cape Breton Highlands and the roar of the Atlantic Ocean, Stanley Thompson's masterpiece has grown into a national treasure.
Located in the heart of one of North America’s most beautiful national parks (Cape Breton Highlands ranked #2 National Park in North America-National Geographic Traveler Magazine, 2005), this 18-hole journey showcases breathtaking mountain views and ocean vistas. Whether it’s the feel of the ocean breeze at your back as you tee off from “Ben Franey” (#1) or the exhilaration of watching eagles soar above as you challenge “Killiecrankie” (#7), Highlands Links welcomes each golfer with its inspiring natural beauty.
This “Canadian Classic” (Globe Golf, May, 2005) has been included among golf’s elite courses for several years. Highlands Links enjoys the distinction of being designated the first course in Atlantic Canada as a “Certified Audubon Co-operative Sanctuary.” As Thompson himself once stated, “Nature must always be the architect’s model.”
Together, the brilliance of Thompson’s design combined with a spectacular natural setting has resulted in one of the world’s most unforgettable courses (#38 Golf Digest Top 100 Courses Outside the United States), and a spectacular golfing experience between the mountains and the ocean.
